Bernadette was my eldest child. She developed asthma when she was 8yrs old but it was well
controlled by her inhalers. When she was 13 she was hospitalised for the first time.
Bernadette loved football and supported Celtic. She bought her first season ticket when she was 21
and it was a dream come true for her. As her asthma worsened Bernadette was retired from her work
just before her 21st birthday but her football gave her something to focus on. In fact, when she was
admitted to hospital usually the first question was " Where are Celtic playing this week-end"? if
the answer was at Home the doctors knew then they were in for a hard time as Bernadette would want
to be out for the Game!!! If all else failed she would sign herself out!!As a result of her asthma
Bernadette wasn't able to socialise as pubs, clubs etc. were too smoky.
Bernadette had her last asthma attack on Thursday 31st October 2001 just 19 days after her 29th
birthday, she suffered irreversible brain damage and was in a coma for 10 weeks.She died peacefully
on 11th January 2002 with me by her side.
Later on in August that year I walked my other daughter down the aisle at her wedding. Although not
there in person Bernadette was definitely there in spirit. In 2004 I became a granma for the first
time. Bernadette would have loved her little niece and would have thoroughly spoiled her.
Bernadette was not only my lassie she was a sister, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin. Everyone
misses her so much and remembers her in their own way. We know she looks after us and she still
often makes her presence felt around the house.

well my dear it's coming up to your 37th birthday and we won't be eble to celebrate with you but we will go out for a meal and remember all the great times we had on the birthdays that you were here for.
Sometimes it's so difficult to keep on going but I know I have to for everyone's sake. Your gran was just reminiscing about you tonight. She is in hospital and she was just remembering the very many times you were in hospital ... too many times to count Bernadette. At least now you are truly at peace and there are no doctors wanting to take blood etc. So rest in peace my lovely and as always the 12th will be extra special. x x

Hi Bernadette,
I am doing my usual Saturday afternoon ritual i.e. listening to the Celtic game on the radio. There's one big difference though you're not there watching it and you won't be coming home to tell me all about it and have our chicken curry. I miss these simple things Bernadette but most of all I miss you my brave lassie. I love you more each day and miss you more than words can ever say. R.I.P. x x
